When you retract the blade make sure you finish by moving the blade forward (to account for backlash).
I'll also vouch for the "5 minute dovetail" article in the current issue of fine woodworking (I think). That issue also has the Pennsylvania spice box article if you really want to be inspired.
I have the 6" version of the jointer. It's a very nice machine that's well engineered and solid. The spiral head cuts smooth and true on my machine. The lower priced grizzleys can probably cut as...
You may want to do a search as this has been discussed before. I use a Festool 1400 that works well.
I believe the Dewalt with dust collection in handle and Bosch are frequently mentioned. You...
I haven't been there but, http://www.suwaneelumber.com/
Holy smokes, batman!
[quote=Bart Leetch;782506] For wider blades you can make a jig that clamps on the blade & is set against the back side of the bar on top so that you keep the proper angle./quote]
Bart, do you...
I choose joints in this order:
1) Pocket screws if the holes don't matter. Super quick, frequently don't need glue, and I can take it apart.
2) Domino joint - faster than the FMT.
3) FMT - I...
I think the parallelogram design is only worth it if you are going to be moving or transporting the jointer and it's likely to get knocked out of whack. Most jointers arrive in good tune and the need...
I'd recommend the grizzly over the ridgid. I think the parallelogram design is very nice, but 98% of the jointers are the regular dovetail design and they work just fine. You could save some money by...
It's got a bow of about .009"
Is there a way to get the face off so I can shim it?
You could try using a large metal bookend at the back of your files.
We've been through this topic before, but many of these arguments are specious. Many US corps move operations overseas to avoid taxes, not because of labor costs. In many cases any labor cost savings...
SW proclassic is great stuff and will work fine. I'd just put it down over some kilz premium primer. Note that the kilz remains tacky even if you let it dry for a couple of days so it will bond well...
I'm going to go the other way from most of the posters. I also have a rotex, and 6" orbital. I love the 6" sander (as long as it's combined with their vac). It's very smooth and great at getting the...
Are you sure the dents aren't supposed to be there? Just guessing, but they sound like they might be reference point so you could accurately register a mark.
My Starrett combination square is one...
My goodness ... you have too many friends or family members!!
:-)
Sounds like Nathan may have been on the "consulting" side of the business a little too long, just like the Information Technology guys at Tauton. If users complain about the product, it must be...
I wonder about the expansion too. It seems the glue-up would have to be perfect since there are so many small glue joints. Also, could you run the block through a planer to flatten the top? Or would...
Very nice. You must have put in some long days to get that done in a week.
But what's the privacy screen for -- so the deer hiding in the woods can't see you?
Pool, spa, new shop? I'd say you...
I got one for Christmas and it works as advertised. PC has a more detailed instruction manual on their website.
It's easy to use, but the joint does look a bit mechanical. This would be more of an...
From the overhead view it looks like there is a dowel through the end of the bar.
Did you glue the dowel to the clamp bar, or is it loose and you insert it when hanging it on the rack?
I really like the arches and detailing at the top too. They go very nicely with the wainscoating.
So you built them a section at a time in your shop, and then transported and installed them?
I've had a corded Dewalt 1/2" hammer drill for about 5 years that has worked fine with no problems.
Also comes in handy when mixing batches of mud.
