Bruce,
I will either have it Powder Coated or Alodined; I guess whichever is less expensive. You are right! The humidity here on long Island has been terrible. It has been an ongoing fight this...

Gentlemen,
Thank you for all for the kind words. I am probably getting more kudos than I deserve. This is probably proof positive that with the right tools and training anyone can build anything....
Well gents, my Slot Mortiser is done. After a bit of testing I show no chatter with my cantilevered design. In fact, having built it in a machine shop, the first test was to pop a .500 end mill in it...
Dave,
I have unfinished concrete but I can't handle the dust anymore. I plan of using some epoxy paint on it as soon as it dries up around here. Living on Long Island has been like living in the...
I have seen them do exactly that at a woodworking show in New Jersey. As stupid as it seems the rep jammed his hand into the spinning blade and came out with just a small cut, more like a scratch....
I second the previous posters recommendation for an Incra 1000SE. I have tried quite a few aftermarket Miter Guages but IMHO the 1000SE was the keeper.
Dan,
No need to apologize. I appreciate your feedback. I will try it and if it does not work I will take your suggestion and redesign the Z axis assembly. I am a degreed electrical engineer who...
Ken,
I am aware of the rules of this site. I have a forum and a free gallery for woodworkers pictures. I started the gallery for the exact reason the origonal poster gives. There is just not alot...
Don,
Not yet. Just one more weekend to finish it. I need to finish the X axis movement arm. I think I will build a craftsmen piece with alot of mortises to test it. It was alot of fun to build and...
Terry,
You have my prayers and best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Not too much more to go. Just have to finish the X stops and Y stops and the X movement arm. I am pretty happy with the progress. I am real happy because about 5 weeks ago I never touched a...
I will use the above slide for the Z-Axis portion of the mortiser as diagrammed in the drawing below....
I bought this Z-Axis table for cheap on eBay....
I am also working on my version. I found an X- Axis table on Ebay (pictured in next post) and will turn it into the mortisers X axis as shown in my drawing.
You may also want to try under the catagory "ball screw"
Thanks all for the warm welcome. I have a free woodworking forum also but I understand I am not allowed to mention the name or URL here. This is not my forum so I will abide by the admins wishes. If...
Bill,
Michele started out with a delta Midi Lathe. She has made many spindles with the lathe. She had a tuff time giving it up when she got her present lathe.
Howdy, all. I am new around here. My name is Guy and I have been woodworking for a very long time. I guess it was in the genes because my dad was a cabinet maker. I also run a woodworking forum if...
Sparky, who long did it take from start to finish? BTW, excellent job! You should be proud.:D
