If his "basement" is really a basement in the eyes of the insurance company, unless he has private flood insurance there will likely be no coverage for his tools. If his basement is a "walk out"...
FWIW in my area, plumbing supply companies sell the pipe at half the price of big box stores. I just picked up 6 20’ pieces for about $1 per foot. I cut to desired length, thread and I’m good to go.
For what it’s worth if you don’t need custom lengths you can buy 720 packs of 8x40 for $99 on amazon. The 36 pack of 750 mm works out to 675 40mm dominos for $78. Not worth the trouble to me.
It’s fairly dry now but I’m too busy to turn. I have a coring system so my plan is to cut a few bowls from each half. Thank you for the input.
So I made the cut as planned. It is solid all the way through with no surprises. It looks very interesting. I put anchorseal on it for now as I do not have time to turn right now.

So I was given this oak burl yesterday. It is about 20" in diameter. I have never prepped a round burl for turning, so I figured I would ask before carving. My inclination is to cut it in half...
I went to Lowes a few days ago for some yellow pine 2x4’s and at least a third of the stack was live edge. They were not even charging extra! What a deal!
Thanks for the suggestions. Outdoor furniture was high on my list as I get a few calls for that already. I completely forgot that I wanted to build a canoe until that was suggested. Will have to...
I read here a lot but have only posted a few times but something fell in my lap that I am interested in hearing opinions on. I came to possess a large quantity of western cedar and am not sure what...
Like most of us, what I turn varies with the wood that falls in my path. I tend to enjoy the larger pieces more due to the unique challenges they provide. When I built my large it was with large...
Bob,
The bowl turned out great. The nail adds character and a good story to boot in my opinion. My last large pecan turning had three 16 penny nails in it. I found the first one by surprise and...
I like the vicmarc style. If I can design one I like that I can fabricate I may go that route if cheap material is available If not I'll do a stand. As for the large turning, I've done some large...
Outstanding work.
I use a large truck drum for the base of a vise stand. That was one option I was considering if not a tripod style. My concern, having never used the frame mounted style would be building it...
John, What I have looked at online is a free standing unit essentially a tripod stand with the tool rest on top. The upside to that style is I can use it for other things such as an outfeed stand...
I'm new here but thought I'd chime in. I just installed 10 pair of led replacement bulbs, bypassing the ballast. Install was very simple. About 10 minutes per fixture. My only regret is I did not do...
I'm new to the forum but not to turning. It looks like a great array of talents and styles here. Very impressed. I've been turning about 15 years or so along with other types of woodwork. My main...
