How would one go about dismantling the spindles from a spindle chair. I'm talking about a perfectly sound chair.
Ok, it's glued up (without the extras) and it's looking good. Had my kid sit in it while I glued, clamped, screwed it all together. It holds my 225lb nicely without any creeks.
But, by the way,...
I'm repairing a very nice Oak, Spindle Captains dining chair for a client. The story has it that this guy's "very heavily set" wife kept using the chair to step on to reach things out of her reach....
I marked the top with the inside of a toilet paper tube. Cut the most of the material with a table saw, filed, belt sander, hand sanding.
Yes, you're right that I am just making it "snugger". And the other suggestion about drilling a hole through the dowel puts my worries at ease to avoid "splittage"
Thanks. I see there's a...
I have been commissioned to make legs for a special type of piano. The Piano restoration place that has me doing this job has very specific requirements as one can imagine. The legs themselves...
I thought this was about being a fan of drums! sheesh. ya got me. I'll leave now.
Thanks, I kinda thought to start from top to bottom because that line around the square is important to be exact and one can cheat, if needed at the bottom. Thanks.
When tapering legs evenly on all four sides, is there a better "entry point" of the two choices?
Meaning, when I taper, is it better to start the cut at the end or bottom of the leg or start the...
Anyone know where I can find these type of things? In this particular case they go at the ends of legs of a piano.

So, for instance, I need to make legs where the biggest part of the taper measures 3 inches on all four sides in it's finished state. Without glueing up 1 by's, what dimension should I order from a...
Is it possible to order from a lumber yard dimesions of in thicknesses, say of 1.5", 2", 3.5" and 4"?
I'm interested in Poplar at this point but, can other types of lumber be obtained to...
Looking for an easy way to produce perfectly tapered legs on all four sides.
Yeaaaa, I can see using hardwood and bending it, to get the ring to the dimensions I want, ply seems the "easliest" and "cost effective". Still though, even if I laminate multiple strips of...
I'm making a 36" diameter table.
The table top itsef will be made up of MDF and laminate on top.
I'm bending multiple thin layers of plywood to encircle the "insert" of the table itself. ...
Yea, I have to stop and watch the Yankee Workshop whenever it catches my eye but honestly, Norm pisses me off!!!!!!!
I mean, he's got every damn tool imaginable and with every jig possible.

When you said "raw wood" I thought I was going to see a guy with a chain saw cutting down a tree, bandsawing it to death and setting it up for drying.
Nice work though.
Geez, and they say Americans do everything big!
In my first introduction to woodshop in 7th grade, our teacher's method of finishing was Sand, Stain, Poly, Butcher's wax.
The Stain and Poly has gone through it's various stages of change but 30...
Ok, now that I think about it more 1/4" would be kind of unreasonable. 1/2" is good. Really though, they'd need to glue up a 36" round? Hmmph
Anyone know if I can order this through Home Depot...
I can't seem to get good info on how, where and if I can get a piece of Corian 1/4" by 36" diameter.
Any help?
Gonna make a kitchen table out of it.
Right you are Tod. The problem is, I'm making a one-off to possibly get a contract. No contract, that's the last one I'll make. Actually, my partner in this said "Would ya just get the right bit?...
Does it matter?
Probably - "Thursday, Schmursday!!!!! You got a deal".
