Steve,
Wow. I just got back from vacation, including the AAW convention, and was looking at coring systems there. Though I mostly do segmented turning, when I do solid wood bowls, I want to...
It will work fine - Use CA Glue.
We woodworkers are netorious tool junkies - woodturners are no exception. Might I make a suggestion - use a faceplate and don't buy a chuck until you are sure that you need one. I make lots of bowl...
You might consider converting to a Cartridge. You can do your own for about the same cost as two bags, and get better CFM and better filtration.

Scott,
I spend more time on WoodCentral - especially the Turning Forum, but have decided to spread out more and will be spending a little more time on SMC
Mark
Scott,
Though I do not hang around SMC all that much, I was glad I logged in today. Had wondered about you now and again.
Good to see you back.
Mark
Oh, I did a search and found it.
Impressions after using it a while??
Mark
John,
I have not been to SMC for a while - which Vega do you have. I have been considering the 2400 for some time.

The Swing on the JWL-1014 is 10" (that is what the ten in the model number is - the fourteen is the max length.).
I regularly turn in the 9.5-9.75 range. That means that to I have to remove the...
Skip,
I have been accused of beating the subject to death.
The biggest advantage of VS on most lathes, is the ablility to turn at a lower end of the speed range. Sanding at 100 RPM vs the...
After a couple more week of using the cheap VS motor on the Jet-Mini, I thought I would give everyone an update.
I have not changed anything since I posted the original, and everything is going...
Jim,
Sure. the speed dial uses about 80% of the rotation, and when you put the dial in the box, you can put the dial on so that the 0 speed is where ever you want it.

Mark,
Don't let the electrical slow you down. All you need to be able to do is solder a couple of connectors, and crimp on a couple spade connectors.
I would be happy to help you via email or...
Motor and Controller Cooling: This is an important issue. Not so much the motor, because I turned for hours with this motor, touched it with my bare hand, and it would be cool to the touch, not a...
I posted this on WOW and Woodcentral a week back, and it suddenly occured to me that I had not posted it to my friends on SMC.
Because of the character limit, I have broken it up into two postings...
One thing to remember, even with the variable speed, the slowest speed on the new 1014VS is still 500rpm. 500-3900 rpm.

One of the things that you should NOT do with HSS is quickly cool it by dipping it in water if you get it too hot. Quickly cooling it, can cause micro fracturing for the metal and reduce it's...
Not bad for a grouchy old codger!!
Seriously, Ken, nice work, and a beautiful piece of wood.
If you think it is hard now, wait until you try some that is totally dry.
Best Regards,

First Gloat: I have been looking for an air compressor for my little shop. Today, on one of my weekly Pawn Shop tours, I found a nearly new Devilbuss IRF-420-2 4HP 20 Gal Air Compressor for $120....
Yup, I have a Jess-um Rout-R-lift, in a black extension on my router table, and use it with my JoinTech Cabinet Maker System.
Works Great, Looks Great.
Mark
Terry,
Ah MAN.....Sorry to hear it, and my thoughts are with you.

Thanks to everyone that gave me information.
In the end - once I got the pulleys right, and got it working, I found out that it had leaks in the pump itself, that I am not prepared to mess with.

While at the local Flea Market this morning, I picked up a small compressor. From the looks of it, it was cobbled together from parts. A Hausfeld-Campbell tank, A Craftsman 1hp Motor, etc.
The...
