Anyone read the new FWW article on DIY spalted wood? i myself tried this (but with beer and dirt), didnt work so well, now i read you have to go mushroom hunting for dead man;s fingers or whatever...
Ah so thats the reason it osts more $$ :P. i notice as i edge joint, the fence sorta bends on the outfeed side from the pressure i apply on the fence, and trust me i dont put too much. only design...
Hummm i'm with jim. i think a taller fence would really help me. i have to hammer A3-31 and i just dont like the fence sad to say. I've always felt nervous using my hand as a "featherboard" to keep...
i just find i get the best results when i keep the pressure low on the fence, having feather boards would just make me feel safer, was just wondering if anyone else was up to this too :)
I've been thinking lately, since you're supposed to keep the face tight up against the fence when edge jointing...why not use one of those magnetic featherboards or 2? one on the infeed and one on...
HAHAHAHA, i want me a 1" thick iron.
the blade itself is not made of carbide, just the teeth. rounding the back of the blade is recommended to do with every blade.
i never did any machine work before 11am and never anything after 4:30. i was actually working on my workbench. like i said, they're angry at the world, when they had a rodent problem they came right...
as mean or whatever it is to think that.....it's true :D
theres no reasoning with these people, they had the city threaten us with fines because we placed a rubbermaid shed too close to our fence.
they're old cranky retired italians, the police were very friendly and understanding of my situation, they explained that if i made noise here and there, then its no problem, but as i was doing it,...
that was exactly it. we've been having problems with our immediate neighbors for years. they call city inspectors to check with whenever someone in the area is doing some renovation. frankly im ready...
had a friendly visit from the police this afternoon basically saying im too noisy and that i cant really use my power tools for as long as i have been anymore. so i can now either, give it up, move...
Yeah i've seen that before and it made me kinda nervous haha. i just back off the guides, turn it on, lets it flutter then slowly bring the tension up til it stops fluttering and give it one more lil...
honestly, how does everyone here set the tension, i've been using bandsaws for about 2 years and its still guess work to me. :(
ah this i did not know!
i think its the tension...it just started doing this the other day out of the blue and then again today. setting the tension is still a mystery to me. i cant use the scale in the back because the...
belt slipping is more of a screetching rght? this was liek a twanty high itched, kinda like when people play a hand saw with a violin bow..
as cutting some maple today i heard this weird sound...the best i can describe it as changing radio stations and getting that weird whistling pitch....what could it be?
How does one go about trimming the ends of a bent rail? Pictures would be great ;)
Ah nevermind i should have done a search first :D
Has anyone had any experience with using end mills in a router in place of a solid carbide upcut bit? i've read they're a fantastic substitute for a real good price, comments about them?
Now...what about getting the tang or whatever it's called into a chunk of wood? One technique i saw in david finck's book was to re-saw a blank, router a groove for the metal, then glue it all back...
thats what i was thinking, i was looking for new chisels and i'm already ordering some metal to make my own plane blades...i just started thinking, why not chisels too?
I was just thinking the other day, i've seen a lot of people making their own plane blades, well what about chisels? has anyone out there made their own chisel from scratch?
