This actually looks like it was done with a hot die and gold foil. Normal embossing just presses the die into the leather.

I"m in central MN. I would be glad to help you out.
When I'm rastering or cutting think leather I mask it first. From my experience the mask seems to soak up some of the heat. I usually raster 8-9 ounce leather but the think stuff can be done.
I also found craft fairs to be a losing proposition. Instead my wife and I go to the Minnesota Renaissance Festival and do very well there. Besides the usual gift items we also burn family crests...
