Darrell, here's an explanation and pics to show what I did to this saw.
First of all, for anyone not comfortable with tuning up their saw, don't touch it and use it the way it is. I am not...
I going to lend this 029 Super to a friend of mine and let him test it for cutting firewood.
I've had some time to look it over, and it is plasticy...but that might not matter for a homeowner that...
Allan,
I just bought an 029 Super, was the predecessor to the MS290, I'm not sure of the exact difference.
I bought this for $75. It's a bit plasticy, but not as much as the new ones. Runs...
Probably is at that! I was just looking at the spec, and Holy Pazoley Batman, that saw weighs 13 lbs. It is just a hair lighter than this 041 Super I just picked up...I will give you one thing...
I found this on craigslist, don't have it running yet, but it fired for a few seconds and stopped. This is the biggest saw I own, 72cc. I might trade it after I get it running.
I paid $80 for it...
I gave one a good look over at the dealer yesterday when I was there.
I won't say it's crap either, but still stand by my comments..."it wouldn't be on my short list", I don't think I would buy...
Mike,
Not to worry, what folks like they like.
It's just a saw, so it is best to use the ones that one feels comfortable with.
I have seen a couple saws locally that would have worked...
This is exactly why homeowners need to be aware of the dangers of felling.
Worse is what is known as the barber chair, where a tree is leaning and someone wants to fell it some other way than it...
Didn't mean to ignore you, I missed this back up the thread. There's a lot of folks that use and love Poulan saws. I like the Poulan bar oil (green container), it's really sticky and stays on the bar...
Maybe you misunderstood my post. I didn't recommend the Rancher, I was recommending the 445. The Rancher is the 455.
On the Husqvarna site it list the 445 for $309, you can get it cheaper,...
Actually the 336 is like the 339, it's a rear handle. It has the same engine as the 334T which you might be confusing it with, but it is a rear handle, like the 339xp. It is not made anymore, and is...
Well, doesn't it have those crappy rubber washer thingies for anti-vibe, rather than real springs? The 290 is probably one of the most beat up saws of all, not sure why but a lot of folks do not like...
I have a few chainsaws, all are Husqvarna.
I have a small Husky 336 which is a limbing saw, and I have a 16" 1/4" pitch bar/chain on it, this is used for carving and detail work.
I also have a...
This looks like someone made their own head knife, sometimes referred to as a rounding knife, or a round head knife.
Is used for cutting and skiving leather.

Lowell,
If you like red markup, check out the Uni Ball Power Tank pens, there are no better pens for markup and layout, IMO. They are pressurized and you can mark at any angle. Some may remember...
Tony,
I must say I don't update this thread on SMC too often, as I don't post here much at all anymore.
I am making some progress, but all of it not galootish.
1) I found a yard to build the...
I don't have my final plans just yet, but will soon. I have a structural engineer that is waiting for them, he's agreed to let me use stainless cable with a spring plate. Many folks use allthread...
I'm flying back home tomorrow. It was honor to learn how to craft log homes from such a accomplished craftsman. I have long admired the work of Tim Bullock, and I can't express my gratitude for his...
Nah, nothing like that. I still plan to live in San Jose for the next 4 years at least, and most likely keep the home. I have a piece of lakefront property for the home. I have known this log...
Making some progress! Starting to fit the next row of full size logs.
This is some timber, like nothing I've worked with, ever. It's fascinating how the joinery works together in the half...
Hey, thanks for the offer John, but we have some Barr slicks and chisels. I didn't bring any of my own tools, except for a broad axe I shipped (should be here tomorrow or Friday.
I'll be updating...
This was not entirely done with hand tools, but the majority was done with chisels, planes, levels, framing squares, scribes, etc... the only non-hand tool I used was a chainsaw to cut the initial...
Rick had it right. Most all RPC vendors recommend using an RPC that is 50% larger than the largest motor you will be starting. I use a 7.5HP RPC and the largest motor I have is 5HP.
You can start...
Don,
Poor technique is a perfect reference, since pulling a saw that was filed to cut on the push is just that. The saw was not designed or intended to pull, so why use poor technique in the first...
That is not totally correct. Some machines require 50% more power to start, like band saws, and lathes, as an example. They need to spin up, and require more power. How much can be started on the RPC...
