Man, so many great replies. Thank you guys.
Peter, that would be awesome! No I don't have a species in mind, I was hoping to make that my next question. I'm open to any recommendations.

I need this piece to be the the front plate to a drum box (a small drum you sit on and play by hitting the front plate) It needs to look nice, so hardboard is out. It has to be at least 11.5" wide...
I'm looking for hardwood at least 12" x 20" 1/4" thick or even a little thinner. Anyone know where I could find this?
Simply amazing Jeffrey. I am making 3 Statesmen rollerballs for the groomsman in my wedding. I know first hand how how frustrating it can be perfecting a pen of that caliber. Where did you come by...
Used latex paint on some freshly cut logs. Did two to three coats. Cracked all to heck.
Maybe I'm confused. But aren't these tools just carbide TIPPED? Does that mean if you sharpen them you will grind all the carbide away?
The Gentlemens kit is MUCH larger than the Baron. The Jr. Gents does look pretty close, but they don't have a chrome kit, and the rhodium kit is quite a bit more expensive. Good eye though :)
Arizona silhouette is all out of chrome barons. Anyone know of an alternate source for these pens?
Bernie, I sand to remove any lines left by applying the CA. Should I just put additional coats on top of this or am I applying it wrong? I just use a folded paper towel.
Thanks for all the quick replies. I have tried using then CA from beartooh with no so great results. The thin CA doesn't seam to stick to the wood. After light sanding the CA is all gone. I have...
My CA/BLO finish is pealing off at the ends. No idea why. I am using medium CA from a local hobby shop. About 6 coats were used to cover all the dry spots. I used an exacto knife to separate the...
Not taking into factor cost. Which of these 3 mini lathes do you think performs the best?
Quick question. Do you use the exacto knife while still on the lathe?
Exacto knife or razor blade. Brilliant!
I usually end up getting some CA on my bushings. When removing the bushings the CA peals off the blank a bit, leaving some bare areas on the blank. How do you guys separate the bushings from...
Thanks for the tips everyone. I tried another today, going very very slow and even drooping a bit of BLO in the blank right before the end. This seemed to work very well. I read on another forum...
Hmm... Thanks Keith. Seems like with Ironwood I am constantly forcing it. Like the bit won't cut unless I apply lost of pressure. Unless the drill press is on a higher speed, in which case less...
One more question. I already filled the gaps as best I could with CA. Will this blank still be usable for a Statesman? How noticeable will these cracks be after the pen finished?
Making some Desert Ironwood Statesmen pens for my groomsman in my wedding. When drilling the blanks I'm getting horrible blow out. It happens on both the bit 15/32, and the massive 37/64 bit. I...
Pulling my hair out. I've tried everything mentioned here. No luck. I'm trying these new techniques on Ironwood, which has given me excellent results in the past. Is it possible that I am sanding...
Thanks for the responses guys. What exactly is meant by "friction dry?"
I usually apply the CA right after the BLO, though I have tried other methods. I have had this problem mostly on box elder, and also a couple cherry burls. Right now the problem is with a cocobolo...
Is it possible this is caused by having a slightly bent mandrel?
Having more trouble with my CA/BLO finish. This is so frustrating because I used to have this thing down pat. I keep getting these "puddles" of spots where it looks like the CA didn't stick. Some...
