Hi all-
Anyone care to take a stab at what kind of wood this is?
thanks!
'Afternoon all-
I've been away for a while but here's a cedar deck railing I recently finished. The baluster detail was inspired by a picture from Fine Homebuilding.

I bought the Hitachi for pocket hole drilling. Its very lightweight (the lightest, I think), especially important if you have a lot of holes to drill.

The 2 layers of 1/2" ply with staggered seems (with the 2nd layer running at a right angle to the first) will give you a stronger subfloor than using 1 layer.
If you're going to do it,...
Your 1.4 should be fine for USL.
Incidentally, I've sprayed Benjamin Moore 100% acrylic paint thinned about 10% and a 1.4 with no problems.
I've never used pro classic so I can't comment...
I prefer a stud wall over furring strips - this allows the depth for easy installation of the elec. boxes.
Also, I don't think I've ever seen concrete basement walls as plumb or straight as you...
The dew point temp is somewhere inside the foam, so the face of the foam is warmer and not subject to condensation.
And, you need an acceptable subfloor.
Does the fjp come pre-primed from your lumberyard?
If the joints telegraph its usually because woods with different qualitites (like age or species) are joined, not because of the paint used. The...
I would skip the 2x4s on the floor all together.
1" rigid foam (EPS) on the floor with exp foam and seam tape and 2 layers of 1/2" plywood directly over the foam.
The foam has the compressive...
Yes, the cope CUTS are easy, but the profile is more prone to damage as the joints are pushed together, especially if the peices are sprung.
I have no issues with mdf and think it can look very...
I'll be the contrarian and suggest you don't use mdf as a first choice, especially having stated you aren't necessarily looking for the cheapest possible.
You won't find mdf trim with the kind of...
I should add that while quality can certainly vary with FJ, major manufacturers like Windsor One machine finger joints precisely and are factory primed with no telegraphing.
My local building supplier sells pre-primed 1x finger jointed pine in up to 16' lengths.
Inexpensive, smooth, paints very nicely.

Surprisingly, a HD near me sells domestic Birch, Maple, Oak, and Cherry plywood, prefinished Maple plywood, pre-primed Birch plywood, prefinished birch drawer sides, and the Lowes sells...

If I was in the market for a new saw, I would go with that new Milwaulkee without a second thought.

If you're building the cabinets, you could also run the cabinet sides high, then add a front nailer and as many layers of molding as you want.
I've seen it done this way as well.
That's exactly what I've done (assuming the cabs do not run to the ceiling).
You could always make one - these are simple jigs.
2 pieces of mdf at a right angle and a stop to hold the molding at the correct spring angle.
Attach jig with screws through the holes in the...
Why not just use this?:

Amana In-Stile sets are very nice.
I'm doing this right now. Actually, I'm adding the garage and the 2nd story addition over it. I'm sub-ing out the concrete/foundation work, framing, and electric and I'm doing the rest.
Did you...
Check the CFM rating at either 90 or 40psi.
There are lots of guns available now that have low CFM requirements. I recently picked up an Asturo mini that only requires 3-4 CFM @ 40.
