Thanks for the responses. I'm thinking that what I have now isn't much different than a $300 air cleaner. The only difference being the packaging of the filter and fan, and a timer. Maybe I'll just...

Glad I'm not alone. I have smelled it a little with our electric dryer. I even smelled it when I printed something from the laser printer. The fuser inside gets up to 400F, apparently enough to...
In my shop, I have a 1 micron dust collector, and a couple of 20" box fans with furnace filters taped to the back. However, I still have a fine layer of dust in the shop and I wear a respirator to...
I have a rather strange question, but I wanted to see if anyone else has encountered it. Years ago in our old house, I used polyurethane on a project in the basement. That evening we noticed a really...
The wood was kiln dried and had been sitting in my shop since August. It's still winter up here, so its not humid. I'm thinking it might have just been the internal tension in the wood.
I recently needed to resaw some poplar and white oak from 5/4 into 1/2" thick boards. Immediately after resawing on the bandsaw, I put them through the planer. They looked great, flat as a pancake....
Thanks for all the responses. Especially the link to the supplement manual.
I purchased the 4212 jig from Amazon and it should be arriving soon. I decided against the 4214 because the reviews for...
I like the dust collection! Much better than getting pelted with chips.
I'm building a chest of drawers and plan to dovetail all of the drawers. I have had a dovetail jig, which I think came from Grizzly, about 25 years ago. It is the same shape that Grizzly still sells...
Some of the most pungent smells I can think of come from a dull saw blade and thick wood. Burnt pine lasts a long time, and anything involving Luan plywood on the table saw smells for days.
In 2005, I laid down about 800sqft of oak flooring using a PortaNails manual floor nailer. It worked great and I was able to resell it a year later for about the same price I bought it for.
I also...
I'm still moving the shop, but it turns out it'll be into storage first. We couldn't decide on a house, so we'll rent an apartment for a few months in the new city before going for a house. There...
Thanks for all the information. We're planning to move about 90 miles, and were definitely having movers move everything in the house at once. Unfortunately, I'll probably be started the new job...
I've received an offer for a job in a different state, and as I wait for HR to perform their blessing on the new job, I'm pondering how I will move my workshop to a new house?
We currently live in...
I built a similar sized box recently and used the lid supports from Rockler. My 4 year has yet to cut her head off from the lid falling, because it doesn't really 'fall' down, it closes slowly......
It looks powerful enough to power the crane that's needed to lift it
I think: fir, fir, pine, fir, poplar, poplar.
I also live in the Hartford area. The Connecticut Wood Group in Enfield is the best place I've been to. There's a place called the Riley Lumber Co in Bloomfield and a place that used to be called...
I heard this story today as well. Very good reporting from NPR, as always. I also work in a hospital, and when I get to walk through the ER, I see the overcrowding. In addition to room #'s, they have...
michael, thanks for pointing out that lumberjocks review of the Grizzly! I read the review and immediately felt vindicated for posting my concerns about the similarities between the Grizzly G0715P...
I would LOVE to get my little girl into the shop! I didn't even know people did this with 3-4 year olds! How do people handle the pre-schooler inquisitiveness? ie, touching everything. What projects...
If you have a bandsaw, just resaw the logs on that. You may need to cut them lengthwise first using the chain saw. Resawing on the bandsaw is actually pretty easy and the results are quite nice.
Yeah, those prices were for <100 bdft, but the discounts above that are only $0.10 or $0.20 for >500 bdft. What wholesaler do you visit in the Boston area? It may be worth the drive since I have...
I'm curious what other people pay for hardwood in their part of the country. I live in central CT and I get the feeling prices here are quite high. One of the best places in the state to get hardwood...
Does anyone else obsess about the mistakes they've made in their projects? I find myself finding flaws in all my projects after they're complete. Some mistakes are only noticeable to me, and some are...
