Great news! Time to crack open the piggy bank.
I will be. Not sure what day yet. Pretty busy schedule, but I'm in the need for some tool candy.

While I am not an expert, I love saws. I own 10+ back saws, 1 LN tenon saw, 4 LVs and a handful of vintage saws. While the LVs are not as visually appealing as the LNs or vintage saws, they work...
Let them think your nuts. Next time you go in, tell them you're looking for a log so you carve a canoe with a butter knife. Maybe they'll give you a mental health discount :)
If you want a solid wood top, but don't want to spend time building one up, look at glulam beams. I went with two 3.5"x12"x96" for a split top bench, but you can get thicker wider and longer to fit...
Found one on TFWW, not as cheap but probably worth it.

I bought the one from LV and haven't had any issues with it.
Whatever it is, there is no cure. I started with a couple of saws, then aquired my first "nice" old saw and 32 saws later... I'm selling one of them and I feel like I'm selling my kidney.
Thanks for the info James. Off to spend $$$ :)
+1 on this book. I just received it and can't put it down.
I made my base out pine and did not finish it, mainly because I'm lazy and cheap. I'd rather apply finish to something I'm not beating on. :)
That's fantastic. My 7 year old son's eagerness to learn/build is already outpacing my skills. Keeps me honest and pushes me to do more. Just hope his interest stays as he gets older.
Hi Jim,
Where do you do your rust hunting? I'm just east of Lake Washington and other hunting estate sales, I don't come across much locally.
Thanks,
Kevin
I wouldn't be able to pay my mortgage if I stopped there :-)
Thanks for the traffic warnings, but I actually lived on the cape for a couple of years, just wasn't into woodworking then. I've come across a couple that look promising. I'll let others know what I...
Road trip! Thanks Gabe
Any recommendations for shopping for old hand tools? I'm in central MA right now and will be on the Cape on Sunday. Any antique, vintage tool stores in those areas anyone can recommend? I'm not a...
Thanks Kenneth, that link was a big help. Jonathan, based on the illustrations in the Atkins catalog, I think you're right that it's a 54. It'll be a great one to clean up and put to work... right...
Fantastic, thanks for sharing.
After further research, it is clearly not a 400 or 401, but still no luck finding out what model this might be, just know what it isn't so far.
