    My new shop building

Last week I posted a picture of my new shop building in the Christmas tools thread and a couple people asked to see additional pictures so here goes.
This is the finished outside of the building:

Backing up to the start of the project, the process went something like this:

There was a bit of dirt to move out of the way:

    After getting the hole dug:

Here are the forms in place for the poured foundation walls:

    Building a new shop continued

After stripping off the forms the foundation walls look like this. There are 90 yards of concrete in the walls. I wonder if the engineering company secretely owns the local concrete plant?

    Getting started on the framing:

It took less than a day to set the roof trusses:

Windows installed and waiting for stucco:

Getting started preparing to pour the concrete floor. You can see the conduit for the floor outlets.

    More shop construction pictures

Starting to get the floor poured. The floor took another 30 yards of concrete.

Unfortunately, the electrical utility box was about as far away from the building as possible. This resulted in needing huge electrical cable to cope with the voltage drop but I have 200 amp service for the shop.

Fast foward to the moving in stage of the project. Here I've got the dust collector mounted to the wall. Now that I've got enough vertical clearance, I need to get a 55 gallon drum.

Getting some of the machinery moved into the shop.

Some more pictures of the inside

More misc. pictures of the inside.

Finally got my benches moved in.

The view out the windows from the bench area is pretty nice.

The building is well insulated and you can see the 2 75K btu Hot Dawg heaters mounted on the ceiling. Getting the building warm is no problem but I haven't gotten the first gas bill yet so I don't know what the cost is going to be. There are 8 of the 400 watt metal halide lighting fixtures which provide plenty of light. There are also 3 regular incandesent fixtures with 200 watt bulbs. I think the color balance is a little better with both sets of lights going. The halide lights seem to be a little on the cold side.

There is still lots of stuff to do, painting, putting up duct work and getting organized but it's starting to get to the point where I can actually do woodworking.

    Holly cow,
When I fist saw it during the holidays I thought it was an attached garage shop on the side of the house.

That is going to be a superb shop to say the very least.

I did notice you are going to need a better bench though

    Hi Daniel ,

You need to make it bigger and get some decent machines!

Really, WOW! Good for you. Have fun and enjoy it.

That looks like a true dream shop.

    Andrew:
After putting 2 coats of paint on that ceiling, 15 feet in the air, I think there might actually be something to be said for smaller spaces.

After getting this built, I will be lucky if my wife lets me buy a new screwdriver.

Indeed impressive. 90 yards is a lot of concrete, if the engineer doesn't own the company he must have stocks.

It's cavernous!!! (spell check says it's a word) I think I'd get lost in there. No joke.
Beautiful space, and equally beautiful view. I know you WILL enjoy it! Jim.
