    quilted maple and Walnut

My next project is a large humidor. After much debate, I was going to make it out of solid walnut with Walnut Burl Veneer Panels on Top and on the two sides with a glass front. I did some measuring and the veneer I have on hand is a bit too small for what I want to do. Instead I have quite a bit of beautiful quilted maple veneer that would work perfectly for the panels. What do you think about mixing the two? I've mixed cherry and maple, but never Walnut and Maple. I think it will look good, but I sure would hate to use the veneer and then hate the way it looks.

    Thanks for the opinions.

Here is an exmaple of what I plan on building. Instead of glass on the sides, it would be veneer panels and the top would be a veneer panel surrounded by some sort of inlay and then framed in solid walnut.

I just finished a letter box made from american walnut and birds eye maple. I think the too look great together. Good luck with your project. As a cigar smoker I alway like the looks of a good humidor.

I love how walnut and maple compliment each other.

Another cigar smoker here who likes this design.
As for the wood combination; try making a small box with walnut and quilted maple panels to give you an idea of how they would look together.
Does not have to be a big one; sort of like custom furniture builders who make a mock-up. Only this time it is to check out wood combinations.

Thanks for the feedback. This is a project I've spent a couple of years thinking about. I love cigars and can't wait to give my stash a proper home.

Maple walnut is a favorite flavor of mine. So it should be a good combo ;-)
