Buffet made of 1/4 sawn red oak

I designed this buffet using Sketch-up. I spent more time in the desinging stage then actually building it. But, I had every detail in my before cutting one board.

Laying it out in 3D helped me find all the oops before it was too late.

Brian, that really turned out nice. It is amazing that one can get nearly the same look from QSRO as white oak. Nice dimensions and well done. Now you need a nice wall hanging/painting above to really set it off.

    Thanks

I am just starting the hutch to go on top. Im having trouble making the doors that will be 43" tall with leaded glass inserts.

Thanks for the vote of confidence.

    Very nice piece.
In my opinion the Quartersawn wood makes it. I'm not a huge fan of flat sawn oak.
I could cry for the time I've wasted, but thats a waste of time and tears.

    Brain,
It certainly came out nice. Hard to tell it is red oak.

Brian, that's really a nice design (I will hopefully soon be starting a similar project) and I like how you kept that QS oak light in color.

Brian, that’s a very nice piece. You don’t see quarter sawn red oak that often, did you mill it yourself?

Very nice job and balance. What finish did you use if I may ask?

Gotta love QS Oak for that unique solid look.

Nice looking buffet Brian, good job. I just found sketchup, don't yeah just love it? I can pre build everything in my head before I waste wood with trail and error.
I take big parts, cut them into little parts, and glue back into big parts.

    The circle of life.

Isn't Sketchup great? You did good. Nice choice of wood as well. Looks like there is plenty of storage in there.

    Brian,

Nice looking, but to my eye, it cries out for some contrast !! Some inlays or accents or mission style hardware . . .

but the wood and design and craftsmanship are impeccable ! Just wish there were some kind of contrast . . .

    Thanks for the support

The finish is Transtint honey amber and Pecan stain. Finish is trusty ole wipe on poly.

St Louis is close to the Ozarks and Red Oak is quite abundant.
