I thought somebody in Michigan was going to hinge and mount the top to the body.

He sent the hinges to me.
Keith,
Are the hinges on the lid?

Keith is currently in Atlanta at the IWF.
I have a commitment from Keith that he will ship the box to me on Monday afternoon.
As I am unable to work due to my recent deafness, I will have plenty of time to try to turn this thing around quickly.
The biggest delay I can see will be procurring the necessary wood.
Thanks for you patience.

Steve,
You know what they say about the word "assume" Steve.
Read the post just above yours. I have not received the box.

Well,
According to the UPS tracking number it should be here on Tuesday.
Now I need to begin to figure out the design of the knobs, the process for turning them and then find the skill to execute it.
I can't wait to see the box. The knobs IMHO should either be unremarkable or add to the beauty without be too ornate.
If anybody has any suggestions on the type of knobs you think would look good, post a drawing or picture. I already have some ideas but am certainly open to other ideas and opinions.

Ken,
Just a suggestion. What about walnut knobs with a maple inlayed front, like you would inlay a piece of abalone. For that matter what about abalone or ?
Please remember that I requested a third knob for the hidden box.
Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
That's in line with what I was thinking. John Keeton sent me some black wood that should go with the box. I also have some walnut.
I was thinking a knob with a maple burl inset in the middle.
It is supposed to deliver today. Typically we get delivery from UPS late in the day. Their office/hub is near here so I think they deliver us on the way to the barn.

Okay folks, the box is in my hands.
It arrived this afternoon and I have partially opened it. I will explain.
I live in a near desert climate. According to city publications our average annual moisture is 13". Think about that....all the moisture rain....snow converted to water.....13". If we received 3" less we would be a desert. We start watering our lawns in late April or early May because if we didn't, by early June they would be dormant.
If you don't think relative humidity can have an effect on wood, ask David Christopher what happened when he brought some wood to me from Florida.....
The box it came in...has been opened and it's wrapped in several layers of bubble wrap. I removed it from the box and have it in the bubble wrap sitting on my assembly table. It will be there for several days before I consider opening the bubble wrap.
I will start practicing with scrap wood and determine what to use, what design and the process. I will occasionally show photos. I will show photos of the final product.
So monkey is on my back now.

Hi Ken, hows the project going? I'd like to see it to see if there's anything I can contribute. Let me know.
Thanks,
What you listen to is your business....what you hear is ours.
Bill....It arrived today. I want it to acclimate for a few days before unwrapping it to fully expose it to the dry air. I will start playing with some knob turing ideas and see how it goes.

Wooo Hooo! Moving forward again. Sounds like you've got some great ideas for the knobs and how to best protect the box. Good Luck. Can't wait to see the next step toward completion.
Belton,
I plan on removing the plastic bubble wrap from it on Sunday.
Tomorrow I will start practicing some some knobs.
Once I decide on size and style, and get a couple turned I will post photos.
Depending on the type of wood, I may have it, a lumberyard 30 miles north of here may have it or I will order it.
As I am not working, I have time to work on getting my contribution finished and on to the next person.
