    spraying over pre finished plywood

I am building a set of cabinets using prefinished birch plywood for the boxes. First time for me using prefinished material.

    questions:

When I attach face frame to the boxes, can I spray pre cat laquer without ruining the prefinish on the boxes?

If not, how about conversion varnish?

I would probably be using a hvlp turbine. thanks for your help.

I don't see any reason you couldn't spray over a prefinished ply but the finish on the plywood is likely a UV cured finish of some kind and you won't spray anything nearly as durable. Best bet is to just tape it off and finish the face frame or better finish the frame then install.

I agree with Joe that best to tape or finish off the carcass. I would think that one of your biggest problem finishing over the pre-finished would be adhesion.

Yes, Its a super slick surface on the prefinished, and I really didnt care to be scuffing it up. I think I'll just finish the frames seperately. thanks for your input.
