    MDF honing wheel question

I would like to make a honing wheel using MDF. I have purchased some 3/4" MDF and an arbor for my newly wired 1/2HP motor. Now for the questions...I plan on making it 1 1/2" wide. Can I just glue the MDF using Titebondand and put it on the arbor like that or do I need to sandwich it between some plywood? What are your opinions on buffing compound? Do you have a good source for it that you are willing to share?
Any and all opinions are welcome.
    Thank you.

    Jim,

I made one and used 3-4 pieces of 3/4 mdf glued together with a hardwood tenon to fit into a chuck. The piece was then turned round and the profiles I needed were cut into the face. As a precaution I ran some screws closer to the center. I use a green aluminmum oxide stick. You can find honing compound at most any hardware store.
