Thanks for all the nice compliments, butternut is a real pleasure to work..It does tend to vary a lot from piece to piece, but if you get your smoother really really sharp..It leaves a wonderfull soft looking wood, i would not want to build a kitchen table out of it. It is far too soft, but it is perfect for this.

The DT's on top look fine in the first pic. They probably look different "in person" If they bother you enough, another panel could be doubled on the top and edge profiled to work into your current trim. Great looking piece from here though.

From my perspective, I really like the hand cut dovetails. It is an interesting feature. Well done.

    Thumbs up

Great job Nate! It's so nice to see some less common hardwoods too...I had the pleasure of using butternut for the first time last fall and realy enjoyed it.

Very nice. I was just telling my wife, I prefer through dovetails to dress up projects rather than molding & trim. (she prefers molding & trim, super-dark stains, and super-glossy finish)

I think the dovetails in the top will grow on you.

When I see dovetails in my projects, it always takes me back to when I was building it.
