Corel Fonts

In the Corel X3 manual there are several TTF fonts that I am having problems with. When I try to use one of the fonts that have a 3 or 4 digit number instead of a character I assume that I am supposed to hold down the Alt key and enter that number, however I am getting something totally different than what's shown in the manual. Anyone have a clue as to what I'm doing wrong?

I'm going to guess that you're trying to use a character which can be found in each of the font's character maps. These can be inserted by highlighting the area you want the character and dragging the character. That will give you an outline or click insert and that will give you a larger filled character. You can set the size but I'm not up on the technique so I resize by hand.
You open this window by clicking on text>insert character.
