    Finish for butcherblock vanity top?

I recently acquired (free) a small table with a 1 1/2" thick maple butcherblock top. I am going to make a new countertop for my bathroom vanity out of it. I was thinking I would finish it with poly but then I got to wondering if an oil finish would be better. It would be much easier to wipe on a coat of oil than put on a coat of poly. What do you think?

    Is it endgrain?
Is there any finish already on it?
Why not use wipe-on poly? Gives you the protection of poly, with the easy application of wipe on oil.
You'll need lots if it's end-grain as it will soak in alot.
