On the similarities between lumber and people

I build things out of ordinary pine lumber than you can buy at the hardware store. I try to visit the hardware store every week and pick out interesting boards with very pronounced grain. This has lead me to the following observation.

Lumber is like people, the most interesting specimens are warped and twisted.

It inevitably happens that when I find a board with some interesting knot or pronounced grain that the board also bends around that area. It makes me understand why the "clear" types of lumber more high priced than the common grades. But I think the clear types aren't much to look at.
