Kind of a matched pair of boxes. Curly Maple and Crotch Walnut, Sapele ply bottom.

Wowww! Talk about simplistic beauty! Not only have you used my two favorite woods, but the style is just great! What joinery did you use for the corner posts?
Really nice!! Like John, what kind of joint did you use on the corner posts? How about a close up pic of the post joints?
Very nice..... I like the clean look of them....
Beautiful combination of woods......
Really a nice and well made pair of boxes Dave. As already mentioned the design is clean, simple and yet very elegant. What are the dimensions of your boxes? Do you plan on lining with suede or leather? Fine work!
The contrasting wood works very well with the posts and box sides. I can't see the sides so not sure if you used hidden pins or not.
Retired and Lovin it
Marvelous work.
Thank you all for the kind words!
These are smallish,12" long x 5" wide x 4" tall. Bottoms are Sapele veneer ply.
Post joints are #0 biscuits. Screwed the biscuit jointer right to a jig, and then the parts are held with a toggle clamp. Surprisingly precise..
Hinge is just an 1/8" brass rod.

I really admire the work on these and the design.
Already stated but.... simple and clean which tranlates to very nice indeed.
Sarge..
The lids appear to be mirror image, if so, nice touch.
Dave, Great work. I agree that's a really nice design. Craig
Very nice indeed!
Wood is very beautiful in tree form. Wood is very useful in burning form. I merely try to make my work honor the first, avoid the latter, and aim for the middle: beautiful and useful.
Oh, those are very nice. And I really appreciate how your made the angle of the feather figure complimentary, too. Nice!

There is something about the design that I really really like. Haven't quite put my finger on it, but I keep looking at them every time I come to the creek. Fantastic job!
I agree with Dana. Maybe it's the design simplicity and purity, but I'm oddly drawn to these boxes. I may build a pair of these for my daughter's upcoming wedding as a special gift. Thanks for sharing them with us.
