Any one know how to stop padauk from bleeding when finishing? I've tried shellac and sanding sealer before applying spray lacquer or whip on poly and continue to get bleeding into other woods. I'm doing this on segmented turning pieces.

if you could spray it that would help. I think if you used oil first it would do it but I cant remember for sure.

I just finished a piece (not turned) and used a very thin shellac as a sealer followed by several coats of 2lb cut as a film build and topcoat. If the bleeding is from an oil used prior to sealing, I would say it has not finished weeping yet. When I flood with BLO, patience and continued wiping till the weeping stops and the smell is nearly undetectable is the method I use. Then I continue the process through the top coat.
