Just pick up some red oak

I just bought 200 bf of red oak for 1.85 a bf. There are several boards that are 12' wide nothing under 5 inches.

    WOW! Great price.
Might be worth a trip for me from AZ. Does he usually have a stock or was this a one time deal?

He said he could get as much as i wanted. 2.05 for white oak. If you buy 500bf it goes to 1.75bf and 1000bf goes to 1.65 this is for the red oak.

I went with the red oak because I am in the middle of a red oak project.

    I'm sure it's me

but the wood I am seeing in the pictures looks to be somewhere around 8 to 12" long. What am I missing?
For the record, I buy 4/4 Red Oak, kiln dried, regardless of volume at $1.65 bdft and it is nice clear stuff too.

Come on in friend, here's what you'll find
A well used shop where you can rest your mind
The beer's cold and the wood is dry
We keep the Red Oak piled 6 feet high

Heh! That table top is as mottled as the floor. It does look like the wood is really short. But if you look closer you see you are looking in the end of a cabinet under a table top!

They are all about 106'' long, they are under my newly built assembly table. It is usually alot higher around here, the best that I have found that is good quality and dry and finished is around $3 a bf or more. There are two sawmills close buy that want $2 bf for green oak. I did find some in huntsville for.75 for rough green cut oak.

He also gave me a 8'' wide 10' long piece of beech to mess with to see if I liked it.

  11. So where is the mill?

  12. Not bad, but that's about what I pay for QS red oak here.

I was wondering the same as Ed. Once you explained it you can see the edge of the table. What an optical illusion!

Where is here? I would love to find any better deals even if I had to do a little driving, just turn the trip into a mini vacation of sorts.

Did you buy from a lumber outlet or a private party?
