    Makita 1013 or Dewalt705?

I'm upgrading my 10" CMS due to difficulty adjusting table and larger cutting ability. I like the Makita LS1013 SCMS, because I also need a new cordless drill (which is a rebate). The Dewalt 12" CMS also is recommended highly. I don't know if the extra 4" crosscut with the SCMS is worth the 12" of extra bench space. I cross cut wide stuff now with a TS sled. Any insights from users will be very helpful. Thanks much.

    Makita 1013 or Dewalt705?

    Tim,

Don't know about the Dewalt but I've had the Makita LA1013 for some 7 years now and still love it. In all the reviews I've read, the Makita 10" always seems to come out on top or real close to it. (The 12" doesn't do so well, something to do with the 10" having dual columns, the 12" only having one).

    Regards, Joe

I've had my LS1013 for about a year and half. Wouldn't trade it. The contractor working on the addition on my house has the Dewalt and looks at my 1013 with a little lust in his eye.

    Guess I am the dewalt fan here. I have [2] 705's and [1] 708.
All three were right on [settings] out of the box. Use at least one of them daily, mostly the 708 slider.

My complaint with the LS1013 is that it is very difficult to get it back to exactly 90 degrees after tilting for a compound cut. I wish that I had gotten a machine that only tilted one way. I find that I avoid tilting it so I don't have to mess around trying to get it set again.

    Hi Tim,

You do not get an extra 4" of crosscut with the 12" saw. If you look at the specs ther is little difference in the capacities of the two. If you are going to be cutting a lot of high molding I would lean towards the Dewalt. Other wise I would get the Makita. I reallt like my Makita and it is real hard to argue with the drill rebate. 12" blades cost more.

I think you will be happy either way.
