    NIP & Walnut

    I haven't turned much in a while, but have had some time back on the lathe recently. This is the first piece of NIP that I've turned. It ended up a little over 9" high and in the neighborhood of 6" wide. Sanded thru 1000 and a few coats of antique oil rubbed in, wiped off, and then buffed out. Comments/critiques/suggestions welcomed.




    Black Walnut natural edge... 14" wide and 5" tall...

    great job on both! it must have been difficult keeping that walnut bark intact being that thin.

    I always look forward to your posts Mark and this is a great example of why I do! Beautiful work! The NIP is some pretty wood with the knots and all but the form is spot on! Your signature Walnut bowl still grabs my attention! Amazingly thin and yet you still managed to keep the bark on!

    As always - very nice work! Hope you are able to get some more lathe time in as we all enjoy the results!

    Love the NE bowl

    Mark, I have always liked the way the heavy coarse bark of the black walnut looks when turned thinly on a NE piece! Yours is very nice and the NIP is something I will have to turn some day. When I lived in Hawaii I wish I was a turner and maybe I would have some around now, but spalted Red pine looks pretty close.

    BTW how are things in AR and ACX? I see Dennis on facebook a lot, looks like he still has a job. I've landed on my feet after getting ACXI-axed.
