    Hickory NE

My neighbor gifed me with all the large trunk wood from a Hickory he lost in October. This was the thank you I gave to them. The blank was the bark side cut-off similar to what one would find at the sawmill pile under "slab wood". This stuff makes for a very broad an shallow NE form which I seem to prefer over the deeper form. 13X4 and finished with gloss poly. This was throwing water the entire time I was turning so to help keep the form usable I carved 3 small feet into the bottom. This way the bowl should sit level as the form changes. They were delighted with the bowl and I was delighted with the wood....Bill..

Very nice Bill! Great job on the feet! They blend seamlessly into the bottom! Really like your finish as well! I can see why your neighbors would be thrilled with this bowl! Thanks for sharing!

Very nice. I also prefer the shallow natural edge bowls and you have done a great job on this one.

    Bill,
Really nice bowl. Wish I could find some wood for you to make me one like that. Don't have to worry about any Hickory around here.

Beauty Bill. Really nice wood. I like the grain and the feet look great.

Bill, that looks awesome. I love the finish you got on that as well.
well depending on the way I would travel, I'm roughly 2,340 miles to 2,529 miles away from the infamous STEVE SCHLUMPF!!!!
