    Wife's Christmas Present 2009

    Hey,

Just wanted to share pics of the Blanket chest I made for my wife this year. Happy New year to all.

Pretty neat project, Joe. Is it pine?

Always a good idea to keep the lady happy!

Nice looking chest. I am sure she is proud of it. What wood is it?

I ask this everytime I see something I want to make: what is the joinery? I think it is a beautiful piece. If it is pine, you stained it perfectly. Even your endgrain came out nice. I'm designing a trunk/coffee table for our front room, and I'm deciding on hidden joinery or through dovetails in my design. Yours is very nice.

Thanks for the replies. The wood is Aspen (Pine family I Believe). It is stained with Sedona Red, and then Poly urethane was applied

I was having a difficult time finding a white colored wood without a bunch of Knot holes. I wanted to use Oak but the wife wanted "a Lighter wood" meaning lighter in weight.
