    They Just Keep Coming.....

Finished up a couple more "customs".... these are going out in the mail today!!!

2 coats of BLO - Dried 3 days. Deft rattle can lacquer - gloss - 14 coats. Sanded to 400 after the first four, sanded with 600 after the next four, then sanded with 1500 between coats up to the end.

Mahogany & Wenge - Was commissioned as a gift. 40 people jumped on board and chipped in! This was a fun project!

Maple & Walnut - I named this box "JK" - Mr. Keeton can tell ya what's behind that story!

Ed, that mahogany box is really neat! Did you do the lettering on the front? Stencil? Very nice!

Of course, I am drawn to the later one! Just nothing better than some nice curly maple and walnut!! And, you put them together with STYLE!! I am honored!

Beautiful boxes, both of them. I'd be hard pressed to select a favorite between the two. Outstanding craftsmanship.

A couple more fine examples of your abilities Ed.

I would be pressed to pick a favorite one.
But if I had to it would be the mahogany/ wenge
    Great work again.

    As always Ed...great work!
Wood is very beautiful in tree form. Wood is very useful in burning form. I merely try to make my work honor the first, avoid the latter, and aim for the middle: beautiful and useful.

    Tips

    Ed,

You do great work...inspired by you, I offered to make a humidor for a co-worker who helped me out greatly this year.

I made the mistake of not putting any real constraints...and now I'm building a chairside humidor for him (lesson #1).

So, my question is do you have a post here where you detail how you make these boxes? I'm most interested in how you get the spanish cedar to seal properly, etc. I notice that you bevel the top of the cedar - is that done by building the entire box, then cutting off the top at an angle, then inserting into the humidor, or is there another way?

Any help you can provide would be appreciated, I'll note your contribution when I sign the completed item...

Perhaps that can help you out some...
