Ancient kauri looks real plain until it's sanded and finished. Then it has chatoyance and depth like you wouldn't believe. I'e turned a few kauri pens, and it looks and turns like basswood, real soft and real plain looking. But then when the finish hits it, it really comes to life.
OK I keep thinking I want to see the saw that milled this stick. My Fiance said the same thing when I showed it to her.
I would buy it, but I don't think it will fit in my shop to acclimate. I guess I would have to buy 2 so I can build a shop big enough out of one.
Time for a bigger jointer.
