    DADO set / blade advise

    Hello,

I discovered the versitility of a dado set on the internet, here in europe it is unknown. So I need some advise on buying a set decend set.
My arbor is 30mm ( metric ). I need to make a differend insert on my machine, but that is no problem.

    The one from freud ?

  2. I'm not familiar with the set that you linked, so I can't say much about it -- except that it looks like a number of other sets that are on the low end of the quality scale.

The Freud set is a rather good choice.

And, in my opinion, anything you get from Forrest is utterly the best. I have the Forrest 8" dado set, and I love it. The bad news is that it is also the most expensive set available, to the best of my knowledge.

Leo, have you checked with your Felder/Hammer dealers in Belgium?

They sell 30mm bore dado cutters that look like shaper cutters.

They have scoring and hogging cutters and leave an extremely clean cut.

The part # is 500-03-19 for the 8mm to 15mm cutter, part # 500-03-20 for the 7.7mm expansion cutter (makes the set adjustable from 8mm to 19 or 20mm).

    Regards, Rod.

I thought saws sold in the EU are made with short arbors specifically to preclude the use of a dado stack because it is incompatible with the braking system required. Is this true?

    Sort of.

A stacked dado set would be a problem, a dado cutter such as the one I mentioned are a 2 or 3 piece "shaper" cutter, they're bored for the locking pins so they don't come loose during braking.

    Ok ,

I check my local dealer, and indeed my arbor is just enough for holding the blade. My dealer even say's it is not allowed to use a dado ?

I go further with the provided link, it would make my work much faster...

Thanks for the advise, i post the result here.

    Then follow these headings

Hammer WPL/HW verstelbare groeffrees voor formaatzaag

It will take you to the exact cutter................Rod.

    Leo,

My understanding is that dado blades are not allowed in Europe due to them being safety hazard but we have them all over the place in the US. CMT is another good brand...made in Italy...but I think Rod has you headed in the right direction.
    Wood: a fickle medium....

Did you know SMC is user supported? Please help.

Yes, Rod helped me , I inform myself , I do not understand why it is not allowed in Europe. It is realy nice to see what you can do with it.
Here woodworking is more a proffesion than a hobby.
