Oh dude. You found me out. The older I get, the lower the rim needs to be.

Very nice shop Terry, thanks for the tour.

I like the overarm saw guard you made.

    Regards, Rod.

I can if it's as low as it was in that shot.

Gee Terry, nice shop. A bit small though. Sorry you have to be so cramped...

Nice shop. Very nice shop. And that bench is the mondo-huge. I guess you don't have any problems with it moving around on you, huh?

    Cool

    Very nice!

I have a request, could you post more pics of your miter saw dust collection and station? I'm in the process of designing a hood with 5" collection, but may go another route if I see benefits to it.
    Regards,
    Chas

As crazy as this sounds, me too Bruce! It's really been a couple of years since I've done any wiing at all and during that time the shop got pretty piled up. Took me a few weekends to recapture it.

    Charles,

It doesn't move any for any reason at any time. I'd guess it weighs in the 800ish pound range and it is full of tools to boot.

    Here ya go Chas...

I used a 6” offset HVAC register boot to make the MS dust hood. The sides are just regular sheet metal. The challenge is to make something that doesn’t restrict the movement of the saw at any angle or position. There is 6” running to the hood and 4” to the saw itself. The Hitachi actually has a 2 ˝” port on the saw and I used a 2 ˝” to 4” adapter right on the saw. I will warn you that you probably need a collector with at least a 12” or larger impeller to power something like this very efficiently.

There is a 6” to 4” wye after the gate to make the split to the top of the saw and the hood.

Clears everything even at full bevel.

Even if the cyclone doesn’t get every crumb, they are contained inside the hood and a simple weep toward the port clears any left overs. Hope that helps!

Very nice shop, looks to be about 50% larger than the building I'm in the process of remodeling. Looks like your building has about 3 courses of block above grade, and then 2x4 framed walls, with 8' ceiling?

Any chance of adding a few more pictures of the ceiling, or maybe a diagram of your DC duct system? I'd be curious to know how you have this layed out. This is in my future, unless the chief carpenter has a better idea .
