Thread: Where to buy top loading engravers?

Where to buy top loading engravers?

I am having a tough time finding top loading upcut spiral end mills for routing aluminum and brass with a Xenetech. The diameter of the shaft is .170". Does anyone have any suggestions where to shop besides Bur-Lane and Gravograph?

    Thanks,
    Eric

That's probably an 11/64" cutter and Johnson Plastics and JDS both have them. I'm not sure they're up-cuts but think they are.

Flutes on the bit pull the chips up toward the spindle.... Down cut, push chips away from spindle....

Right hand Helix. CNC router folks have renamed things that have been in use for 100 years in the metal working side of things.

The call up cut what we call right hand helix. They call left hand helix "down cut".

It's very confusing to see all these things that already existed being renamed to something completely different.

    Thanks Al,

Up-push, isn't that suggesting a normal Positive cutting rake?

A down-push would need a Negative rake and I can't see how that would ever cut. the point being that aren't all milling cutters up-push?

I have been around milling cutters for 50+ years and can't recall seeing a "down-push" one. I have been wrong before and will be again.

Why dont you use a single flute straight cutter instead of the end mills? Do you have a cutter grinder?
