    Epoxy and cocobolo

I recently turned a new handle for my fretsaw from a really nice chunk of cocobolo. It was a press fit, but is still a little loose. Will epoxy bond to cocobolo, or does it also require a solvent to remove some surface oils? I would like a permanent solid bond here, do not need to remove later like a socket chisel.

You should be fine. Gorilla glue will also work, but will be messier.

I agree that you should be fine. Epoxy is some pretty resiliant stuff and should not be bothered by the woods' oils.

I would think a thick viscosity CA glue would work as well (although it may not be as gap filling as epoxy).
With skill and tool we put our trust and when that won't do then power we must.

Gary, I use epoxy all the time with Cocobolo, Ebony, Tulipwood, E. Indian Rosewood, and Snakewood. I never bother with a solvent wipe and have had no problems on over 800 marking knives, and 400 awls. The advantage of epoxy over many other adhesives is that it forms both a mechanical and a chemical bond with the substrates.

I use yellow glue with oily exotics also, it seems to work fine...
