    spalted Walnut HF

This chunk of Walnut had a lot of spalting in the sap wood and I just did not have the heart to turn it awaytrying to reach that deep dark heart wood. Measure 8x6 and finished with min wax wipe on poly...Bill...

Bill you definitely made the right choice. Great piece.
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Hope you all got a nice stash. Because this was seized at the border today.

Smart call, Bill! The spalted sap adds a lot.

Very nice form, and I really like the texture work in the collar.

I like this a lot. I tend to like the pieces where people contrast a dark wood like walnut with a light wood like maple. In this piece you get that contrast out on one chunk of wood. I think what i really like is that the transition is organic, it is definitely a distinct change from light to dark but it is not a artificial glue line.

Very nice looking vase. The carved/textured area near the opening is a very nice touch. Love the spalting.

    Bill,

I've always been a satin/matte finish kinda guy UNTIL I started viewing your work! Beautifully turned and an awesome finish!
