Thread: Engraving wine bottles?

    Smile Engraving wine bottles?

Hi, has anyone engraved full wine or champagne bottles? Is this dangerous? If a bottle were to break would it damage the machine? I have a 35 watt Accuris, any idea of the speed and power settings? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, Jay

You're fine with wine, but do not do champagne... pressurized vessels and heat-induced cracked glass do not make good partners.

I have done lots of wine bottles, but no champagne. I know that there are lots of people on the sandcarving forum I belong to that do tons of both and have had no problems. The laser can't possibly hurt the contents, it's not strong enough and there isn't enough heat generated. My guess is that the champagne bottle is so much thicker than it needs to be that you probably can't hurt it either - but what do I know...

Agree with Bjorn. I am personally engrave a lot of champagne bottles with laser and only one thing I did is engraving thru wet paper. No problem at all.
