    Schedule 40 in Garage

How against code would it be for me to use a short length of hose from the washing machine cold water faucet (There is a Y on it so the washing machine can still get water) to connect to a run of schedule 40 PVC to get water to the front of the garage (my wife needs a water source for her glass work)? The pipe would run up to the ceiling and across the back wall. Then attach to a compressed air/water hose reel.

    Thanks,
    Dan

Don't know if it against code in your community but try to imagine the dollar damage that would be caused if it failed. Use copper, galvanized or PEX. In the event of a failure your insurance company may not cover the damage.

It might be easier than you think to tee off the supply line to the washing machine and just run a new spigot outside

Use Shark Bite fittings. No soldering and you can connect different types of pipe together. Fittings are guaranteed for something like 50 years AND you can take them back apart.

I love them and have used them. GREAT for those home plumbing repairs.
