    Bear Box Intarsia

    Hi everyone
Here are a few pics of my newest commission that I did for a client in Ga.They live in Big Canoe and have been known to see a few bears roaming the property. It was for a 70th birthday gift.
This is the subject photo that I started with,a piece of cloth that my wife picked up at the fabric store.

This is the first draft of the hand drawn pattern for the Intarsia that will fit in the lid of the box.

Here are the pics of the finished Intarsia on the lid of the box. It has 70 pieces from 12 different woods, and finished with 3 coats of spray- on satin poly.

The box is made from Fishtail Oak and measures 9"x7"x3.5", and finished with 3 coats of wipe-on satin poly.

I like to line my boxes with a nice heavy upholstery material.

For the finishing touch I add the wood list ,signature, and date to each of the boxes that I make. This was a fun project.
