I went out today to cut up a couple logs of crotch wood from a Sugar Maple tree my neighbor fell and gave me. These have been sitting for two years. I am divorced now and she wanted these logs out of her yard so I was just going to chop them up small enough to handle and dispose of them. But what I found instead was its spalted through and through.
I ended up cutting most of it into 8" thick discs and will now save for woodworking.
The picture doesnt do it justice, each peice seemed to have more spalting, some almost ambrosia.
Im quite happy with the unexpected find.
