    Curly Birch Step Stool

I made this small step stool after using a "full-size" one I made last year, and finding a ton of use for it. I found a board that had some really great figure (curly yellow birch) and was just big enough for a 3/4 scale, which is nice for smaller spaces.

The dovetails are hand cut, and I am very pleased with the result. This is the first time I have used the trick of putting a small rabbet on the tails after cutting to help align for transferring to the pins. If you cut tails first, this is a GREAT trick!!

Finish is BLO and super blonde shellac.

Anyway, thanks for looking, and any comments welcome!

I can see why you are happy with the dovetails Adam. Nice, very nice job on those handcuts... Tails first..... Only way I do them. And the small rabbet sure does help in the pin layout.
Nice figure on the birch. Did you pick it up locally?
Seeing this little project makes one want to do a bunch of hand cut drawers...

Yes, I got it from Chanin here in Edmonton. I also got a 12/4 piece of eastern soft tiger maple at the same time. There is over 20 bf in that one board, and the figure/curl is everywhere! I can't wait to design and build something with it!

Nice job on the tail's first (is there any other way?.. haha) and the figure on the stock is excellent.
