    Stanley 26 rebiuld

    Antique collectors may what to look away. I didn't rebuild this plane to the original state rather I made it the way I wanted it.

    I wanted a jack plane so I picked up a Stanley 26 transitional from a fellow Creeker. I boxed it with lignum vitae. Inserted the mouth with lignum vitae also. I reused the original blade, however someday I will replace it.

    It works good. I like the way the LV glides over the work piece.

    I like it a lot.
    I have a sargent transitional that belonged to my Great Grandfather set up as my Scrub Plane. It's a little big but does the job just fine.

    I totally agree with others. That is one sleek 26. If anything, collectors should be collecting this.

    That is very nice looking. I love the transition planes...somebody needs to bring those back...and looking like that.

    I think we woodworkers appreciate these types of things.
    To some people it's just a couple of pieces of wood glued together with a couple of metal pieces screwed on top but to some of us the sum is greater than the parts.
    By the way, the old 26 used wood screws to hold the metal on. I drilled these out and installed threaded inserts so I wouldn't have to worry about stripping out the screw holes.
    I've got a few more planes left to build then I gotta move on to some things for the house.
