Smile bandsaw thread o' the day

Needing more bandsaw reading material..... I finally settled on skipping over to that vast auction site where i used the query wood bandsaw to get some pages of results to peruse.. bandsaws from the 4 1/2 inch Proxxon to a couple of 42 inchers... (wow!). Interesting also, since there were many that are not commonly discussed on this forum. They included a Northfield, an Invicta, a number of DoAll's a Crescent, some Olivers and vintage Rockwells and Powermatics (and of course new Jets, Grizzly's and ShopFoxes among others) and the aforementioned tiny Proxon....

Even the very large machines rarely have ripping capacities of the newer Lagunas and other european models.. it did make me wonder though, if you have a huge ripping capacity, shouldn't the bandsaws come with sliding tables.. not many 17 inch logs I want to lift onto my bandsaw!

As you noticed, the large throat saws are not necessarily for huge logs. The sawmill format would come into play there.
