I have that set. The killer is that not one....and I mean not one....bit in that whole set was straight. Every one wobbled. I still use the set. For the $30 I paid on sale, it's a good deal and makes fine holes for rough work, i.e. furniture, bookcases, etc. I don't let them anywhere near my guitars or anywhere else I need a precise hole.

It's funny because just today I went out and bought some more brad points, cursing that stupid set under my breath.

What about something like the picture inclosed from MSC Industrial. Other companies have different styles and cost less. Won't hold router bits but is half way there.
    Check Harbor Freight.

Amazon has similar and much lower price. Huot 13000 for $74.
Might seem expensive but it would do a good job

    Drill bit storage

I have a lot of drill bits. Several years ago I came across these at the BORG or Walmart. Use the same thing for my taps.

    Drill Bit Sorter Drawer Insert

This is a solution I've been considering for the same thing. The Lee Valley toolbox trays are something I hadn't seen but look good to me. They are a bit pricey.

This image is a CNC design that would fit into the 1" Lee Valley drawer. Could be made from wood or from blue foam. On a CNC it would be a very simple cut. It could be done from a template with a router as well - a lot more involved.

Each drawer could be tailored to the particular set of bits.

    Hope that helps.

I like the organizer that comes with the 170 piece set from woodcraft. the colt five star bits are half off their clearance price.

I got a broken link message there, Rob. But MSC has lots of choices.

The only IKEA store I've ever been in was when I was alone in France. Talk about getting lost! I don't speek French, I don't read French, every time I got close to a door that looked like I could open to a staircase it seamed to be alarmed. Very confusing, I'm never going back. To France or IKEA.

If you have waaaay too much time on your hands you could build one of these. I mounted it next to the drill press so everything is close at hand. http://sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=76466

What you want are drill indexes.

Twist drills (the correct name for them) come in four dimensional types. Number drills, #1 through #80 being the most common but available up to #107, Letter drills, A thru Z, fractional drills, about 1/32" through maybe an inch and a half, and metric.

On the left are drill gauges, and on a right a drill index. Indexes and gauges are available for any size system you want. Here is a drill chart for reference.

The gauge pic is courtesy Grizzly.com, and the drill index courtesy UseEnco.com

I DON'T want an index, because the whole point of the exercise is to have multiples of the same size together.

I do want to get a set of gauges, though, those look nice.
