    Keepsake boxes for Grandkids' Christmas

Here's some boxes I made for the Grandkids for Christmas:

    100_0096.JPG
    Cherry with raised panel lid
    Finished with spray poly

    100_0101.JPG
Hickory (or Pecan) with mahogany inlay
    Finished with shellac

    100_0098.JPG
    African mahogany and hickory
    Finished with lacquer
My first attempt at something other than a square box. Came out ok but I'm not really thrilled with the design. Not bad for my first attempt at something different.

I like the clean lines of number 2 the best. Your grandkids should be thrilled.

I like #3 because it is different than normal...

  4. Nice job all around Jim! I'm a clean lines kinda guy too, so #2 is my favorite, but all three are nice.

Boxes make great gifts and tend to last a long, long time, so the memory of the maker lasts a long time too. Good job Grandpa!

Great looking boxes, Jim. Another vote for No. 2 as my favorite. I love the color.

Delivered the boxes this week. Had an early Christmas since we won't be seeing them at Christmas. They were a hit and nobody noticed the glitches that we all see so plainly.

    Thanks for the kind comments.

#3 would be done different if it was done again. Just for design continuity, I think the lid should probably reflect the rounded ends in the "legs". The legs are also a little bigger than I imagined. But I'm happy with it - just trying to branch out beyond the palin box.
