That's a very nice composition. I might have used a brass colored backer plate behind the photos to frame them but that's personal taste.
I would also use a black fill to improve the contrast. (don't tell anybody but liquid black shoe polish works very well on walnut)
One more thing I do on plaques like this is to apply a coat of wax.
