Thread: My ResawKing blade exploded today.

  1. #1

    My ResawKing blade exploded today.

I was ripping some 4/4 ash when bang! the blade snaped.
It didn't break at the weld. When I removed it from my 14" saw I noticed that there were fractures about every 2-3".

Anyone else have this happen to their ResawKing?

If its a 1" blade than that might be the problem.Even though my 14" says the max is 1" I feel that 14" wheels is to small of dia.for a 1" blade more so if the thickness is .035.
If its 3/4 or 1/2 then maybe the thrust that you were applying was to great since you found cracks all the way around.Just a thought----Carroll

I had a 1 1/4 KerfKing do the same thing about a month ago. Wakes a guy up right quick. It looks like the band work hardened and cracked about every 2 3 inches like yours. I was using it on a MM20 with 20" wheels. I didn't think with 20" wheels it would work harden and crack. So far my 1" ResawKing is holding up fine except it's now dull so I have to send it in for sharpening. I'll go back to my second 1 1/4 KerfKing while the ResawKing is out.

That sure sounds like work hardening. I'd go back to Laguna to see if they'll replace it.

Guides that are too tight can cause work hardening too. Best of luck with your next blade.

Have not heard the term "work hardening" before. Is this a result of heat?

    Thanks, Brian

No - more like bending a paper clip back an forth. It gets harder the closer you get the breaking it.

    Bob,

I contacted Laguna as soon as I saw your post a few minutes ago - I asked if they have seen this type of failure - the short answer: No!

One of their reps will be contacting you. I look forward to resolution of this issue.

Glad to pitch in, Bob! They have extremely competent people, and are willing to help if given half a chance. They have been terrific with me, and with readers of my blog. I look forward to the resolution.

    Hi Bob,

I just wanted to follow up with you and make sure you've been taken care of since your phone call with Jason?
