a couple of new hollow forms for me

the vase is about 10" tall and 5" in dia the colour has faded since I turned it about 10 days ago
it's hollowed to about 1/4" thick but the bottom is alot thicker
I've never hollowed "that deep before and was getting a little scared when I got to about the 8" depth but got it a little deeper and called it quits

the second was a piece of old firewood and is about 6" in dia

Those are both beautiful. The wood in both is really interesting too. Too bad there isn't a way to retain the brilliant red in box elder.

BTW, I like leaving the bottoms of my hollowforms thick. For one thing, I'm like you and I worry about blowing it up after I've spent so much time hollowing. But I also like the ballast it provides, particularly on a taller vase.

Those are beauties. I like the first one. The wood is spectacular. The second has a pleasing form. I like to leave my bottoms slightly heavy for ballast also.

More of that Box Elder I assume - incredibly beautiful wood and I do love the shape. I have a BLM burl roughed out quite similar drying in my shop now (and awaiting a supported hollowing rig due to the depth). Is it an illusion due to the grain/knots or is the wall rather flat-ish under the shoulder?

I have one more big block of Manitoba maple left
on the outside it has more colour than the first piece and some bark from an old branch showing so could be a nice piece
it's about a 12 inch cube

any ideas of a form that would be a good ?
