Keepsake Box - Spalted Maple Sawn from Firewood

Two years ago I rescued 3 spalted maple pieces of firewood from a relatives firewood pile. This year I got to give them their firewood back, along with a little African Mahogany, Purple Heart, and Poplar (for sides and bottom of drawers). Finish on the box is BLO and 3 - 4 coats of clear Shellac that was rubbed out with 0000 Steel Wool. The pictures are from the my cell phone, but hopefully they show off the grain nicely enough.

That is super nice. I love spalted wood and I love to hear of "rescued" wood that is put into a project. Great job in both instances.

That is some real nice looking wood in that project. And bonus points for the fire pile rescue...

Very nice project. Wish I could make something like that from my wood pile.

Thanks for all of the kind words. It was a pretty hard one to put together, but in the end it came out nice.

I was most pleased with the African Mohagany. I had never used it before and it was really easy to work with and looked good with a finish.

That box rocks. I really like the design at that scale. The materials you've chosen don't hurt a bit either. Very nicely done.

I really like those Robby. I was going to ask approximate size until I finally noticed it was sitting on a chair.

    Robby,
That is a really beautiful piece. Your choice of the mahogany really compliments the spalted wood.
