LV Medium shoulder plane - adjuster back lash?

Just curious those of you who have the Veritas Medium SHoulder plane, how much backlash does your depth adjuster have?

minimal backlash - almost not noticeable, unless you are specifically looking for it.

    James -

Before you do that - please check the fit of the adjuster pin in the blade hole - if the hole is at all oversize, it will manifest as increased backlash.

    Cheers -

Remember all adjusters have backlash. Even Bridgeport mills have backlash in the tables and quill. Proper technique will minimize the issue. Always finish up any adjustment by extending the blade so the backlash is used up and the adjustment will hold.

Mine has 1/4 turn. +1 on investigating ALL components involved. The adjuster could be fine. LV will take care of you.

In reality, backlash is not a problem, even with precision metal cutting machine tools. Any device can have or will develop backlash. Even CNC machines have features built into their programs to allow for backlash. Even their ball screws have a little backlash.

You just go back too far,and proceed forward to take up the backlash in a lathe, mill,or on your plane.

I'm glad backlash isn't keeping you up at night. Back SASS might keep me up.
